Our New Fire Chief
I would like to introduce myself as the new Chief of the Livermore Fire Protection District. First, I want to thank our previous Chief, Jim Herrington, for stepping up to be Chief for a second time, after we unexpectedly lost Chief Don Maynard in 2021. Jim has served the Livermore Fire District in various roles since 1997 and is continuing to stay active in the Department as an Assistant Chief. His emergency service experience, knowledge, along with his familiarity of our large fire district, are invaluable to us.
I moved to the Livermore area in 2015, along with my wife Carly, and son Nate, after I retired from the St Charles, IL Fire Department as a Battalion Chief. I joined Livermore Fire soon after moving here. I was immediately impressed with the quality and dedication of the volunteers in this Department. Shortly after joining, I took on the role of Training Officer. Although I oversaw training, I had to learn a lot too, as wildland firefighting is not a big part of working in the Chicago suburbs! Of course, I’m still learning, which is one of the reasons I enjoy volunteering here.
When I’m not volunteering at the fire department, I enjoy many outdoor activities including hunting, mountain biking, and backcountry ski touring, as well as traveling with my wife Carly, who retired as a police officer and now owns and operates a local travel agency. Our son, Nate, recently graduated from Poudre High School and is attending college in the area.
I really enjoy serving the community, working with all of our volunteers, the other emergency agencies in the area, and getting to know so many of the people in our large district. With the position of Fire Chief comes a little more stress, responsibility, and demands on my time but I’m very fortunate to work with a great team and “many hands make light work!”
Some of our goals for the near future are to build a Station in the Red Mountain area, update our fleet of vehicles, recruit new members, maintain our skills, and prepare for new challenges.
If you would like to talk to me or introduce yourself, I’m usually at Station 1 in Livermore on Mondays, or my email is jmeeter@livermorefire.org.
