Message from the President

Neighbors, it has been almost two years since you passed the ballot measure increasing taxes for the benefit of the Livermore Fire Protection District. I want to thank you for your confidence in our fire department. I want to take this opportunity to tell you how we are using the extra money. Shortly after the ballot measure was passed, we ordered a new type IV brush truck. We were fortunate to be able to purchase the only four-wheel drive truck chassis available at the time. The build out of the apparatus is almost complete and we should be taking delivery in the next few weeks. In addition, a type I apparatus became available in Sacramento, CA. Two of our firefighters went to inspect it and based on their appraisal of the apparatus we purchased it. On the medical side we have purchased a new Zoll monitor for use on medical calls. In addition to recording the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels it can administer an EKG. It also has a built-in AED for cardiac arrest patients. The new monitor is compatible with the equipment used by UC Health and the results can also be loaded on a stick drive for use by the ambulance crew and the receiving hospital. Finally, we are beginning the process to build a new fire station on Red Mountain. With the population growth in the area two stations are insufficient. As the station progresses I will update you in future newsletters.Bruce E. Huey, Board President
